Baltimore, Maryland
The Baltimore Metropolitan Area consists of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and four neighboring counties: Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford and Howard. The area's approximately 2.7 million residents make it the 20th largest metro area in the country.
A major U.S. seaport, Baltimore is rich in history from colonial times to the American Revolutionary War to the War of 1812. Its Inner Harbor is a significant tourist attraction featuring Harborplace, the National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, Port Discovery children's museum, Pier Six Concert Pavilion, and more. Stadiums for Baltimore's Orioles baseball team and Ravens football team within walking distance of the Inner Harbor, and cruise ships take vacationers to ports of call both north, south and east from Baltimore's Locust Point.
The city is fertile ground for numerous artistic and cultural endeavors. The Baltimore School for the Arts is a national leader in preparing students for careers in the arts. Baltimore is also home to the world-renowned Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and enjoys the lively arts in venues such as the Hippodrome Theatre, Center Stage and Everyman Theatre. Well-known for its charming neighborhoods, ethnic cuisine, crabs and seafood, and the Chesapeake Bay, "Charm City" and its surrounding counties have much to offer.
